I love it when families take the time to coordinate their clothing. Whenever I book a family or high school senior portrait session I email them a confirmation on our session time and place, as well as tips on what to wear. Kirsten, the mom in this family, obviously read my email and that was a big part of making this very cute family look amazing in their portraits. During my outdoor portrait sessions I always try to get several different family group pictures as well as shots of just the kids and just the parents. Sometimes the little ones start off a little apprehensive, but in the end they are giving me hi-fives and having a fun time. Oh, there has been a few little “gangstas” over the past 20+ years that even the parents’ promise of ice cream or threats of spankings has failed to change their attitude. But, I do my best to make it fun for everyone and after doing it for so long it just comes natural to me.
Capturing the family dynamics can be the most precious part of a photograph. Having two older brothers I can totally relate to the middle kid in this photograph.
